News of the Nude, Jul. 2024
This month's News of the Nude covers a wide variety of stories from around the globe. Highlights include the human chain protests on Catalan beaches advocating for naturism, the heroic intervention of two nudists saving a tourist in San Francisco, and Seattle's mayoral controversy over nudity at Denny Blaine Park. Additionally, France sees a resurgence in naturism post-lockdown, and a charity skinny dip at Baker Beach raises funds for the Fistula Foundation. The edition also explores body positivity, media representation of nudity, and challenges to public nudist spaces.
Morley Schloss, 1941-2024
This week we lost a great naturist, Morley Schloss, who passed away at 82 after battling COVID-19. Morley’s influence extended far beyond Sunsport Gardens, significantly shaping naturist culture and civil liberties. He played a pivotal role in the Rochester Topfree Seven case, affirming women's top freedom rights in New York State. His dedication to body freedom and social justice inspired the naturist community, transforming Sunsport Gardens into a sanctuary of inclusivity and respect. Morley's legacy of advocacy and unwavering commitment to naturist values will continue to inspire future generations.

Support Denny Blaine Park: Friends launch $3.3 million fundraiser
Our report on Denny Blaine Park details a $3.3 million fundraiser launched by the Friends of Denny Blaine Park to improve and preserve this beloved Seattle nudist and LGBTQ+ community space. This initiative follows controversy over a scrapped playground project funded by philanthropist Stuart Sloan, who, along with Mayor Bruce Harrell, expressed disdain for the park’s nudist visitors. Text messages revealed Sloan’s attempts to influence city officials. The fundraiser aims to enhance park infrastructure, including adding bathrooms and other amenities, emphasizing the need to protect public spaces from private influence. Supporters are encouraged to donate and uphold the park’s inclusive values.

About the ‘nature’ in naturism
An impactful essay by M.M. exploring the intrinsic link between naturism and nature, emphasizing the need to preserve the environment as central to naturist values. Inspired by Steven Charleston's meditations, M.M. reflects on the essential role of nature in the naturist experience, arguing that while naturists benefit from nature, there must be a reciprocal effort to protect it. The essay critiques the modern focus on body image over environmental stewardship and calls for a return to the egalitarian roots of naturism. M.M. urges naturists to recognize their responsibility in addressing climate change and preserving natural spaces.
