Weekly Wrap: Feb 2
Censorship, closures, and the next generation of nudists—this week on Planet Nude.
Welcome to our 57th Weekly Wrap!
This week’s edition comes one day later than usual, in case you haven’t noticed, on Groundhog’s Day. I apologize for the tardiness. I’ve been living my own sort of Groundhog’s Day for the last four days, sick as a dog, sweating through my sheets with some kind of bug. So, I’ve gotten a little behind on the newsletter. But like Punxatawney Phil, who reportedly saw his shadow today, I’m looking out my bedroom window at the sunshine, casting shadows all over the room, and feeling optimistic that the worst of this illness is behind me—despite the foretold six more weeks of winter.
Anyway, it was a wild week. From the latest News of the Nude to the sudden closure of Desert Sun Resort, the conversation around body freedom continues to evolve. We also explore the challenges and opportunities facing young nudists and dive into the mindful practice of nude meditation. Plus, as with every other week, we have all-new Strips!
Let’s get into it. 🚀
This week on Planet Nude 🪐
News of the Nude, Jan. 2025
January’s News of the Nude covers a wide range of naturist issues, from social media censorship to public activism. A global coalition of naturist organizations has formally challenged Meta’s discriminatory content policies, while Portland prepares for another season of nude cycling protests. Other stories explore the growing impact of social isolation on naturism, public nudity in legal battles, and unexpected moments of nudity in pop culture. While the fight for body freedom faces challenges, this month’s developments show a movement that remains resilient and determined.
Desert Sun Resort in Palm Springs closes permanently
Desert Sun Resort, a beloved clothing-optional getaway in Palm Springs, has closed permanently, marking a major loss for the Southern California naturist community. Once a thriving destination for social nudity, the resort faced years of uncertainty before finally shutting its doors. With other naturist spaces in the region also facing setbacks, this closure raises concerns about the future of organized nudism in California.
Gen Z nudist reporting for duty
Why aren’t more Gen Zers embracing nudism? In this thoughtful reflection, Alex explores the disconnect between younger generations and social nudity, revealing how social media has shaped unrealistic body standards that discourage participation. Based on a campus survey, Alex identifies self-acceptance as the key challenge and argues that nudists must actively invite and educate young people if the movement is to thrive.
Naked mindfulness
Meditation and naturism come together in Naked Mindfulness, a practice that blends the benefits of body acceptance with deep relaxation. Richard Dewey, a meditation instructor and naturist, shares his journey into mindful living and discusses how nude meditation fosters self-confidence, stress relief, and a deeper connection to nature. Plus, an exclusive Planet Nude discount for Dewey’s online meditation course offers a chance to experience this transformative practice firsthand.
