What keeps people from social nudity?

Naturism has a lot going for it that naturists often espouse: freedom, community and connection, comfort and body acceptance, etc. But for many, that first step into a social nude setting never happens, even if they might really want it to. Reasons vary for everyone, from fear of judgment, body anxiety, or worries about being seen or photographed. Then there are physical obstacles that prevent people from trying it, like a lack of nearby options, strict platform or club rules, or concerns about how friends, family, or employers might react. Then there are broader cultural forces—like the return of modesty trends and purity culture, stricter content policies, and a growing discomfort with the body itself—all shaping how people feel about nudity.
So, in this week’s #UndressedThread, we’re digging into it and asking:
What reasons do you believe many avoid social nudity?

When the media judges nudists the way they do it could make people feel they are a freak or weird if they go to a nudist resort. There is sometimes a shame involved as well. Educating the ‘public’ that it’s ok to not have a perfect body is an uphill battle especially in the age of social media. But it’s one we need to take on.
I believe religion is a huge one. Just yesterday, my pastor told me I am not qualified to serve at our church due to my stance on Naturism. That is frustrating and disappointing. Even though I have tried to show him that the bible is neutral on simple non-sexual nudity, he will not accept it and has come to this decision.
