Weekly Wrap: Jul 13
This week on Planet Nude: Celebrating International Skinny Dip Day, investigating stochastic attacks on naturist groups, Seinfeld on nudity, and an Arabic-language nudist pioneer in 1930s Lebanon
Welcome to another Weekly Wrap. This week was a doozy of a week. We learned about an Arabic-language nudist pioneer in 1930s Lebanon. We examined dated views on nudity from Seinfeld. We reported on unwarranted groomer accusations against a Toronto naturist group. And two new webcomics on Strips! Huzzah!
And, of course, today is International Skinny Dip Day! This is our final chance to raise money for women afflicted with Obstetric Fistula through our Skinny Dip Day campaign. Please help us hit our goal.
So much to catch up on ahead. Keep reading.
This week on Planet Nude 🪐
Today’s the day! As you read this, I and several Planet Nude contributors, as well as our friends from the Southern California Naturist Association (SCNA) and Friends of Bates Beach (FoBB), are enjoying the wonderful weather at sunny Bates Beach and pooling our resources together to support the Fistula Foundation. By now, you may be tired of hearing me say it, but I would be remiss if I did not use this one last chance to implore you (for the last time this season) to make an online donation. Your gift will help provide life-changing surgeries for women with obstetric fistula. If each person on our email list donated $10, we would far surpass our $2,000 goal. Donate now to make a difference.
By the way, if you plan on celebrating Skinny Dip Day wherever you are, snap a photo and send it to us! We’ll include it in our Team Planet Nude wrap-up, which is coming soon!
Hobeiche’s nudist revolution
In this article, Carl Hild, PhD, explores the pioneering work of Sheikh Fouad Hobeiche, who introduced and promoted nudism in 1930s Lebanon. Hobeiche translated French nudist literature into Arabic, published the influential newsletter "The Revealed," and advocated for social nakedness and body acceptance. The article highlights Hobeiche's efforts to adapt Western nudist concepts to Middle Eastern culture, his impact on the region's social norms, and his evolving views on women's roles. This piece is part of Hild's ongoing series on early nudist history for Planet Nude.
