NAC Action Alert: Support Tampa Bay Free Beaches’ campaign for East Beach
Letter-writing drive seeks to make history on Florida’s Gulf Coast
This is an urgent Action Alert from the Naturist Action Committee (NAC), in collaboration with Tampa Bay Free Beaches (TBFB). The effort to create a legal, family-friendly clothing-optional beach on Florida’s Gulf Coast has reached a pivotal moment—and naturists everywhere are being asked to act before October 31st.
Background
For years, TBFB has worked to secure a County-approved clothing-optional designation at East Beach in Ft. De Soto Park, Pinellas County. The group has cultivated relationships with County Commissioners and the Sheriff, joined the Tampa Bay Beaches Chamber of Commerce, and engaged with Visit St. Pete–Clearwater. Officials are paying attention—but with a vote looming, they need to hear from supporters beyond Florida.
A wave of international and domestic support could help tip undecided commissioners toward approving this historic designation.

Why it matters
A legal nude beach at Ft. De Soto would be the first on Florida’s Gulf Coast. Proponents stress that East Beach offers ideal conditions—ample parking, handicapped access, showers, and a quiet shoreline—while also promising major benefits to local tourism and small businesses.
“This campaign is about creating a safe, family-friendly recreational opportunity,” NAC said. “Letters of support from locals, Florida residents, visitors from other states, and even international tourists can show commissioners the scale of interest and potential economic impact.”
Call to action
Naturists around the world are invited to participate. The goal is simple: flood Pinellas County commissioners with letters of support before October 31, 2025.

Interestingly, some on NaturistHub have said that when they sent e-mails to the Pinellas County Commissioners, they received a reply saying there is no such proposal before the commissioners, and/or claiming no knowledge of such a proposal.
AANR-Florida Region sent out an e-mail over the weekend, urging support for the e-mail campaign. But, they included this, which should help explain better what Commissioners know, at this point:
"Expectations for Supporters
Supporters should be aware that, if contacted by the Commissioner's office, they may be informed that a consideration for a clothing-optional beach is not currently scheduled for discussion. This response is accurate, as the proposal will not be officially introduced until the completion of the letter-writing campaign."
