It's a great feeling of freedom to awake and go right outside for a long walk in a beautiful natural setting.

Contact private landowners, you might be surprised at how accommodating some can be.

You say to join a freehiking group, but how do you find one? I live in NYC, where you can find almost anything, but I've never found a totally non-sexual local nudist club.

You might have to look well outside of the city. There's definitely no place inside the city a freehiker would be welcome.

I suggest a few more ideas. A lone male is often suspected of being a pervert. Groups are less suspect. If the group contains a female, even less suspect.

Shorts are incredibly awkward to pull on quickly. You look stupid and/or guilty if caught in the middle of trying to get them on. A Velcro wrap or even a broad brimmed hat is a better choice.

Even if nudity is legal, the people you meet may not know that. Ditto for the police officer who hears their complaint. They may know but not care. Err on the side of consideration and conservatism. Having the law on your side may keep you out of jail but won't prevent you from being harassed.

It's very freeing to freehike. My wife and I have hiked maybe 30 miles nude on different trails, and I've hiked maybe an additional 30 or more when she didn't. We've done it in Washington State parks, national forests, in WA, OR, CA, HI.
