Yes, you're right, Timothy. There are bad nudes.

Thank you so much for recognizing this and advocating for understanding and acceptance of others in the same way we want to be accepted. I sometimes have a similar conversation with myself regarding "rights" over our body.

For example, I find the imposition of birthing on women's bodies horrifying. When I think about rights and priorities, I sometimes chafe against worries that we can't be nude because it seems more trite than being forced to birth. But they I think they can both be important and if I defined which one was more important, I'd be taking away from another the same choice I want.

More recently, I've started feeling similar about the sex industry/prostitutes and the judgements on people who choose to participate in that. Isn't that just another way of saying we want control over another's body? As a woman, my lived experience is likely going to be different than a man's, as there is a clear gendered difference in the majority, but might I chose differently if that didn't exist?

I had a visceral reaction to those pictures in the news, which I found interesting, and I think it was because there was obviously no consent. And, historically, the display of power over others does involve this lack of consent and the impact of it. The rape of women and men as symbols of war is also well documented.

The fortunate part is what everyone has stories beyond the snapshots in time. Sometimes, from the worst nudes, the strongest advocates can rise.

Nice article but I find it somewhat distressing that the points you made have to be made. Forced nudity has been used for ages to demean, degrade and dehumanize people. I think the key point is as so often the case, one of consent or far to often these day the lack of consent. As promoters of nudism(and i guess any other lifestyle ) is to accept others lived experience. If he tells you that the day at nude beach, club, pool party was the horrifying, terrifying humiliating then it was, even if you had a wonderful time. The hard thing as enthusiasts is accepting that what we think of as a freeing, life affirming lifestyle is not for everybody.
