The joy and dilemma of supporting naturist media
Why the flourishing of naturist media feels both inspiring and bittersweet
As a longtime social nudist, I’ve seen many changes in how our community connects, shares, and keeps our culture alive. For years, naturist voices were few and far between, often drowned out by stereotypes or left to the occasional mainstream article that never quite got it right.
But in recent times, something inspiring has been happening. More and more nudists and naturists are stepping forward as independent creators—writing newsletters, hosting podcasts, publishing blogs, and sharing their stories with honesty and authenticity. A recent compilation of the 40 Best Naturist Blogs on Feedspot illustrates this point quite well. In most cases, these aren’t polished PR campaigns; they’re real people speaking from lived experience. And the result is a wonderfully rich and diverse collection of naturist thought, history, and reflection.
Each time I learn about a new naturist initiative, I find this encouraging, exciting and deeply affirming. These voices remind me that naturism is not only alive but evolving—nurtured by people who care enough to share their insights and creativity. Listening to a podcast on body acceptance or reading a blog about someone’s first club visit brings me a sense belonging.
And yet, here is where my frustration lies. As much as I would love to support every one of these independent ventures, I simply can’t. Even when focusing only on preferred works, the total cost of subscriptions, memberships, and Patreon pledges can become difficult to manage financially.
To be honest, this feels like standing in front of a banquet table, filled with nourishing and meaningful food, but knowing I can only take a small portion. I wish I could support every voice, because I know how much work and heart goes into creating these resources. I know how important they are for our community’s future. But wishing and affording are not always the same thing.
Still, I try to do what I can. I subscribe to a few favorite creators. I read, listen, and share. I recommend creators to friends. And I send encouraging notes. Although financial support is important for creators, expressing appreciation for their work is another meaningful way to encourage them.
I imagine I’m not alone in this dilemma—grateful for so many authentic naturist voices yet wishing I could contribute more tangibly to their efforts. Maybe, as our media landscape grows, we’ll discover more sustainable ways to support one another: collective funding models, shared platforms, or community collaborations.
For now, I’ll continue to provide whatever support I can and even if I can’t pay for all of them, I will applaud the emergence of naturist voices that keep me informed and strengthen the culture I hold dear. 🪐
