Strips is going free
Why we're dropping the paywall window and what that means for Planet Nude
You may remember that about a year ago, we made a small change to how we publish comics on Strips, giving paid subscribers a week of early access before the comics unlocked for everyone. The intention was good: we wanted to offer something tangible to the readers who support us financially, and early access seemed like a reasonable way to do that.
After a year of watching how it actually works, we’ve decided to reverse the change.
The data and the feedback both point the same direction. Strips is our most shareable format—comics travel in ways that articles don’t—and the paywall window, even a temporary one, limits that reach before the post can find an audience. More practically, it means free subscribers receive paywalled emails they can’t read, then the same comic again a week later. That’s not a great experience, and Planet Nude’s commitment to free daily content shouldn’t come with that kind of friction.
So, starting with the most recent Strips release, Strips comics go out free to everyone from day one. No paywall window, no resend.
If you’re a paid subscriber, you’re not losing something real—and we want to be honest about that. The value of your membership has never really been about getting Strips a week early. It’s been about making Planet Nude possible. That’s what your support does, and that’s what it will keep doing.
If you’ve been on the fence about going paid, this is still the pitch: independent journalism and art about nudity and body freedom, free for everyone, sustained by the readers who believe it matters. Is that you?
Thank you, all of you, for being part of this. 🪐
