Skinny dipping in the high desert
I’ll be spending Skinny Dip Day at Golden Valley Sun Club as they celebrate their first anniversary—join us if you’re nearby
This Saturday, for Skinny Dip Day, I’ll be joining the Golden Valley Sun Club in Arizona for a backyard pool party that also marks the club’s one-year anniversary.
Golden Valley Sun Club is a nonlanded, event-based naturist club that hosts gatherings in the private backyard of its founders, Freddie and Alan Carlile. Set in the Mojave Desert just outside Kingman, the club offers a laid-back, social nudity experience for locals and visitors alike.
We’re also using the event to raise funds for the Fistula Foundation.

The setting at Golden Valley Sun Club is modest but functional: an above-ground pool, a shaded bar area, and a handmade deck—all built by Alan, who serves as co-host with his wife, Freddie, who also helps run the club while also serving on the board of AANR-West. Together, they’ve created a casual, welcoming space for naturists in a region not widely known for its body-freedom culture.
Last year I visited for their grand opening. I wasn’t sure what to expect, but what I found was a diverse, friendly crowd that really made me feel like part of the group. The desert sun was intense, which I’m used to, but the pool was a perfect temperature, and the vibe was easygoing and genuine.
This weekend, I’m going back for their anniversary party—and I’ll be bringing a stack of Planet Nude stickers as well as a friend who’s a first timer to social nudism. Perfect!

Of course, I’ll also be representing Team Planet Nude for Skinny Dip Day, and that means fundraising. As you’ve likely seen by now, we’re raising money for the Fistula Foundation, which provides free surgeries to women suffering from obstetric fistula, a devastating childbirth injury that causes chronic incontinence and isolation. One surgery costs $619, and we’re trying to fund as many as we can.
