FB has decided to include a sexually graphic ad for ED gummies. It is amazing that I cannot post natural photos of the human form while sexual displays are okay. It proves your point. Capitalism is driven by profit and sex sells. Criticism will not change minds, we have to hit them in the pocket. The only way Haulover Beach won nude allowance was by presenting the economic gain it would bring. We must find a way to show Meta that allowing nonsexual nudity can contribute to their profitability.
In reality, Haulover did not convince anyone to let them launch a nude beach. They actually had to brazenly take the beach without official sanction, and it was only after they established the beach and demonstrated the economic benefits first hand that they were embraced. This still reinforces your point that we need to make this an easy economic choice for big tech, but I think it adds another important point that we can not ask for permission, we’ve got to carve a path and create a market for this content. That will demonstrate the financial viability of providing a space online for nudist expression.
'Sex sells. Truth doesn't" Personally, I prefer the word 'reality' to 'truth'. But I still agree with your point.
There's still a double standard, even within Instagram. An advert for women's undergarments will overtly display (as is logical IMO) the garments so any woman can look and judge how well it'll suit her body. Men's? You can check every pic and you'll rarely find shots taken at an angle that will allow a man to make the same judgement. Seriously, even eBay provides more informative pics.
Excellent article. So true.
I've been pushing the Facebook envelope by posting my life drawings. But real envelopes, with the message you outlined! That would be fun.
Great article, Thanks for posting. Your writing has got me thinking about how we can counter this trend.
Good article - has got me thinking!
