"(what were the chickens for?)" cracked me up so much.

I wonder if the man who claimed that Venusians walked the Earth was Samuel Eaton Thompson, who claimed to be in contact with them in the 1950s and stated that they frolicked in the nude and foretold the return of Jesus Christ? Or if maybe Thompson had read some of Gurley's, erm, work prior to his own contact?

that name sounds familiar, think it was the 40s, Gurley was pretty adamant that he had been there, and was pretty verbose about any else who said they had too or ....funny thing, that despite him owning a telephone company for 25 years they'd never heard of the guy. that book of his i need to track down, two copies known, one at cal fullerton one at penn state both on special collections a guy who mentions him in a kansas book on native lore, wrote you have to see the photo inside the front cover. i figured it was gurley, had penn state scan it for me, it is the only known photo of the los angeles pyramid, a cryptic megalithic structure, the locals caried away the stones around 1900. if i go up to jersey to research i may go read the book. this writer found a copy 30 years ago in chase county kansas newspaper office, no one knows where it got off to. He is one of the more least interesting people in this book, however, Maurice Allard, Harper Henry, Walter Seigmeiser, the Baroness of the Galapagos, etc
