Those comics definitely had a big impact on me, too! I agree with your assessment - great stories, characters, body representation. I’m lucky enough to have won a signed copy of The Koala Bares, a real treasure.

Also - There’s an interview with Crowley on the nudescribe site under “disrobing suspense.”

Loxie and Zoot is a fun comic.I'm fortunate to have a copy of the one book that was produced. The follow up comics are great as well.Hopefully one day the site will be updated to include all of Crowley's comics.

Would be great to have a retrospective published in hardcover. This would insure that their legacy would be available to future generations.

Loxie and Zoot was also featured in TAN (The Australian Naturist) magazine which is where I first encountered the series.

Crowley's comics were an epiphany for me, completely frank and matter-of-fact about human bodies and all our bits, without sensationalizing nudity once. They were so remarkable that I thought a wider audience would discover them and naturism. That didn't happen, but Crowley produced art.

Thanks so much for sharing this. As both a nudist and comics fan, I have been vaguely aware of "Loxie & Zoot" for years. However, I never knew anything about the strips or their creator. I think the time has come for a deep dive into the Loxie & Zoot archive!

Thank you for this article. I LOVED Loxie & Zoot/The Bare Pit, etc. I regularly re-read my hard copy of "The Koala Bares." Naked in my backyard, of course! In Koala Bares 1.01's final panel, Loxie originally said "chunky dunking" until I wrote Crowley and suggested "thready dipping" as the appropriate, body-acceptance opposite to "skinny dipping". Crowley made the change and wrote me a nice email back. As I recall, Crowley also painted a mural at some naturist place in Australia. I wonder what the status of that mural is nearly 20 years on.

After much searching I found this link, that supposedly let me order the paperback book via PayPal.

I ordered a copy a few years ago. I wasn't sure if it would show up, but a few months later, I got a surprise in the mail. I'm so glad I ordered it.

Thankyou for writing about Grace Crowley and telling those of us who don't know about this great artists work. Personally I have thought that Loxie and Zoot could have and should have been made into a television series or a movie since I first read it on Australian Sun and Health.
