Thanks for a comprehensive and well-researched history. Who’d have thought it!!

I have always held that public nudity is a revolutionary act.

Who is going to set up a local 'Down With Shame' parade/march through their local town or city attended by 10,000 fellow nudists?!

This is a very interesting article, thanks. I knew that there had been a fairly open attitude to public and social nudism during the earlier years of the USSR and that things like Stalinism had reacted with a more conservative approach, but not to the extent that this article portrays. Nudists frequently cite that without clothing we lose indications of other parts of our lives, a leveling-out process, but the references to the coal-miner and the banker is still very true today, although with a higher proportion of soft hands probably.

This is an excellent article!

This topic is close to me, as I myself lived in Russia for 50 years. But I knew about the events of those distant years only from scattered sources, scattered on various forums and abandoned sites. And in this article everything is put together, along with rare surviving photos (besides these photos I saw only a few more of those years from the pioneer camp "Artek" on the Black Sea).

I will also note that the article is written very politically correct, without evident attempts to condemn or justify something (although many terrible events took place in Russia during those years).

Thanks again to the author for remembering an interesting topic and giving an informative account of it. Special thanks for the cited list of references!
