FINALLY! Some 'good' news concerning Club Orient! We spent a couple days there in 1988 while on our honeymoon, and spent a week in one of the beach chalets in 1998 to celebrate our tenth anniversary. We returned yet for another week two years later. Truly, 'heaven on earth'. I hope we live long enough to see the new resort and spend some quality time there. Please, keep us posted. Wishing them the very best of luck.
This is great to see. So much talk about it every time we visit. There are so many other places on the island still in ruins going through similar challenges.
I just had a chat with the owners of one of the destroyed chalets. They tell me that this is not as it seems. According to them, most of the property where the Club Orient chalets were located, the land that borders on the beach, is not part of this lease. That land is still owned by the copropriété (a condominium corporation for those in Canada & the USA) so there can’t be any demolition or development on that land without their agreement which is apparently far from being given. The vast majority of the chalets at Club Orient were privately owned and those owners are still the shareholders that control the copropriété.

Any renderings of what the new resort will look like? (I like architecture too!?)
Yup! It’s coming.
