Women unite through the WOW calendar
How a bold calendar campaign is connecting women through nudism, self-expression, and community
What if a single word could encapsulate the transformative power of nudism? That question lies at the heart of the Women One Word (WOW) Calendar, an inspiring initiative led by Andee Rodgers, chairperson of Women in Nude Recreation (WINR). The project invites women to reflect on what nudism has meant to them and distill their journeys into a single, powerful word.
Rodgers told Planet Nude the idea took root after she watched the film Calendar Girls, which is based on the true story of a group of English women who created a cheeky nude calendar to raise funds for charity. Inspired by their boldness, Rodgers imagined how she could take the concept further. “I asked participants to choose a word that explained what nudism has done for them,” she said. “Along with the words, some wrote stories to go along with their submission. I then took all those submissions and turned them into the 2024 calendar.”

The first WOW campaign was a resounding success, reaching over 750,000 people globally through media and social platforms. Building on that momentum, Rodgers launched the 2024 WOW campaign, culminating in the newly released 2025 calendar. “The Calendar Women come from all over the country, but also from England, Canada, and as far away as Australia,” Rodgers shared.
Personal stories of transformation
The WOW Calendar is a celebration of personal growth and inclusion, built around inspiring words and powerful stories. For Jenny, one of the participants, the process offered an opportunity for deep self-reflection. “This experience pushed me to engage in some intense self-reflection, searching for a word that not only resonated with me but also captured the essence of my innermost self,” she said.
For others, like Ceera, the project symbolized belonging. As the campaign’s only transgender participant, she emphasized its impact on her sense of identity. “What struck me the most was the feeling of inclusion and acceptance,” Ceera said. “Being allowed to participate reassured me that AANR is indeed a safe space for LGBTQ people such as myself … and it made me feel more comfortable with simply 'being myself.'”
Rodgers also noted how the campaign resonates with women who cannot explore nudism in person. I’ve received emails from women thanking me for the stories on the WINR website,” she said. One woman shared that she revisits the website regularly to feel inspired: “I go back to it to read about and see the beautiful, strong women—and remind myself that I am also one.”
A mission of connection and community
The WOW Calendar reflects the core mission of WINR: fostering community, camaraderie, and connection. “When we share our stories, we find we are not alone,” Rodgers said. “Many of us struggle with body acceptance our entire lives. Becoming a nudist frees us from that negativity. This is how we found our peace—a peace that only the nudist community can provide.”
Priced at $20 plus shipping, the calendar is also a fundraising tool for the AANR Education Foundation. The foundation supports scholarships and initiatives to educate the public about the values and benefits of nude recreation. “The Foundation’s goals are to ensure an understanding of nudism and its rightful status as a social and recreational practice,” Rodgers explained.
The 2025 Women One Word (WOW) Calendar, produced by Women in Nude Recreation (WINR), is available for purchase for $20 plus shipping (typically $3 to $5 within the U.S.). With only about 100 calendars left, now is the time to grab a copy!
