The 'Nudism Is Sexual' fallacy is the one that I think creates most problems for us with regard to gaining wider acceptance for our preference to be nude.
I'd happily never wear clothes, but I'm in the wrong country to live permanently naked, like many other nudists. So, this fallacy is probably obviously so to most people capable of thinking it through.
In a way I like to be seen naked, because it means that I'm in my favourite natural state and hopefully socialising with other nudists.
Is the living in colonies still as much a myth about nudists as it was in the past?
Had a conversation just the other day with someone who said “nudist colonies”. I explained they are referred to as Resorts or Clubs, “Colonies” do not exist, her reply was, “Well, they will always be colonies to me, so I’m going to call them that.” And this was a lady who enjoys spending days on clothing optional beaches, nude with others.
I think most people who use the term "colony" use it only because they've heard it. I don't think they give any thought to the full meaning of the word.
Nudism is NOT sexual, but you show me HOW MANY NUDISTS ARE NOT. It is,normal to be sexual,& you certainly can't have sex wearing clothes. Its using WISDOM ,& BEING SMART about being sexual & nudist which can find the balance. Nudists don't have sex in the resorts, but that does not mean we can't have sex at home after a nude resort visit.
This myth has been growing exponentially in recent years and is one of the most dangerous to the movement. It's also the one that makes it easiest to attack us due to ANY sexual association with nudism (such as swinger resorts or nudism social media that doesn't moderate strong enough to keep bad actors from sliding porn into feeds, etc).
Being logical and 'nice' in response to these allegations clearly doesn't work. We have to fight back hard, strong and legally.
I know, right? The whole 'nudists are pedophiles' is such bullshit. There's nothing wrong with children being nude, or seeing nude people. Unfortunately some people are simply to closed-minded to understand this.
Not just that,,organised nudism has to promoteevents like what i call NAKED FREEDOM.DAY & NIGHTS.Days in certain cities,& towns where for certain days, nudists can use public pools, parks, visit museums, shop in their favourite stores or groceries. Or visit familyfriendly water parks & theme parks. WITHOUT THREAT OF ARREST, OR BEINGHARRASSED BY GAWKERS & WEIRDOS. Hold these events as often as possible, sothe stigma of Nudism.can slowly begin to wear off. The only threat is YES, THE POWERFUL RELIGIOUS RIGHT ORGANISATIONS.
In the cartoon, why is the guy saying "Ack! Nudists?" not wearing a shirt? Is he actually nude himself? Perhaps he's a conservative nudist that just has a thing about progressives rather than nudists? If Archie thinks nudism is for flakes maybe Jughead is a closet nudist? ...so many unanswered questions!
Ha! The old man is Mr Weatherbee who I believe is the school principal. As I recall, right before Archie runs into him on the beach he’s thinking of joining the nudists, so when he calls them flakes he’s just trying to look agreeable to the principal. It’s been a while since I revisited the whole comic (I had these panels accessible but not the rest) but I do have the comic at home!
I thought Archie was thinking about joining the C/O crowd as well when he ran into his principal, and said that to cover his actions. But to be honest, I’ve read/seen several “nudist Archie” comics since the birth of the Internet and not sure what was real, and what was “fake”. Although this one was real assuming I haven’t lost all of my memories.
'Nudism is Sexual is usually the first thing I address when I'm talking to someone about the benifits of nudism. It's sure a tried and true myth among the textiles.
Wife was raised to believe nudist or naturist resorts/clubs were code for sex clubs. Until she saw the truth with her own eyes. “Colonies” I honestly don’t think will ever die, people still believe colonies exist, everyone is always nude and don’t own clothing.
Back when the Internet was new to the masses, in Newsgroups, came across people who said “True nudists don’t have tan lines.” There was no changing their minds. They firmly believed you couldn’t be a nudist if you ever wore clothing. They pointed out nudist communities existed, Florida was their example, and claimed part-time nudism wasn’t possible.
I was raised in the era of Dr. Spock. He stated that seeing parents nude was not healthy for children. Some years lateral, that was repeated by Dr. Joyce Brothers. Toward the end of his career, Spock was asked about evidence for his claim. He said he didn't have any but it seemed right. I believe the basis for the mischaracterization of nudism is based on a misreading of the Bible, nudism is sinful. A close reading of the original text reveals that covering up was an attempt to cover the real sin, disobeying God.
So much of the reason our societies are backwards with harmful cultures are because they're still based on religious mythology from the distant past when humans had no grasp on the size and composition of the universe. They thought the earth, and humans, were the center of everything. Now we know differently, but we have not yet been able to use education to shed these ridiculous societal and cultural norms. What primitive man 2000, or even 200, years ago thought is irrelevant to today. They did not live in the world we live in.
Once a newcomer typically spends as few as 30 minutes in a socially nude environment, the new person sees others are natural about it and the person tends to relax. That reduction in fear of the unknown leads to indirect recognition "Nudism is not sexual." In fact, meeting others while nude tends to reduce tension.
I cringe when I hear "Nudism is not sexual¨. I found slow dancing with my wife at a nudist dance very sexual, I'm sure I wasn't the only male happy the lights were dimmed and they had an extra towel. We are sexual beings, even with our clothes on. Skinny dips can be sexual, even when the water is really, really cold. In the same way that making naked snow angels can be sexual. Studies show that sex in a relationship can be better when the partners shed traditional societal conventions, and if most nudists haven't shed traditional societal conventions... I like to say nudism is not sexual perversion, it is sexual celebration. I want people to see my morality, my sexuality is private, or at the least, semi-private. ;-)
My wife and I have told many people and have yet to hear a negative comment. Usually they think it's fine or even great that we do it, but they could never. Here are the reasons we've heard:
*I literally hate my body
*I won't expose my varicose veins
* I would get an erection
* I hate the feeling of being naked--it's physically very uncomfortable to me to not have clothes on.
The 'Nudism Is Sexual' fallacy is the one that I think creates most problems for us with regard to gaining wider acceptance for our preference to be nude.

Nude colonies existed over 70 years ago, when nudism was not accepted in the mainstream.

The threat is that there are ordinances and laws almost everywhere in the United States and many other countries preventing that.
Unfortunately,very true!!

Check.out WPG NUDIST on TWITTER/X. The Archie of back then is not the Archie of today!!
We aren't open about our nudism, but have friends that are.
When it comes up in conversation that they are nudists the overwhelming response is "I don't have the body for that, no one wants to see me naked."
We just smile knowing better. I'll occasionally comment "that you don't know what you haven't tried"
"They" think nudist are involved in all day orgies.
Sadly, yes they do still believe that.
Link to comic! I won't spoil it! https://readallcomics.com/archie-and-me-136/
The strangest thing i have heard was that nudist are all perverts and will or must go to hell . Heard this from a religious person .
Harmful to children ( but guns are ok )
Preach it!!👍👍👍👍

It can be but as with any other social gathering welcoming families sex is not acceptable in public!

Ever hear? "I'm OK with nudism, but what about the children?"
My answer, "Could you tell me what harm would befall a child who sees a nude person?"
I've never got a rational reply.
