We were on holiday in Vancouver in 2012 and saw a recommendation to visit Wreck Beach. We enjoyed a blissful day in beautiful sunshine and got converted to naturism. Since then we have been to many naturist resorts and beaches
For me it was gradual... First, I went swimming in the nude (in the ocean - tying my swimsuit to a buoy - and putting it back on before coming back out of the water). Then being nude at home - including the many conference calls I was on for work... then hiking and biking naked in the New Mexico mountains... and finally visiting lots of different naturist resorts in the US, Mexico and France. And I'll go back to Lake Como tomorrow for the annual Go Bare 5K this weekend. 🏃👍
The person was Lee Baxandall, and the entry was into naturism, not nudism, though I'd enjoyed skinnydipping at Harvard, in Ithaca, and in Indiana, and later in Germany and France before being invited by him to do a Naturist Opera Workshop at Bélézy, which resulted in the Opera/Musical Theatre SIG of TNS(F).
In the mid-70’s, on an extended work related trip to Lompoc, CA, I went to Gaviota Beach just to find a quiet beach to relax. While there I had my first nude experience. Totally isolated - and seriously enjoyed the new experience. Returning home to MD I found that we lived just a few miles from Pine Tree Associates. After convincing a reluctant wife to make a visit we went to see what it was like. By the end of the day she was asking how and when could we become members. The family nature of the resort (kids all over) and the welcoming members sealed the deal.
We went to Sandy Hook for a day at the beach. Took a walk and stumbled upon Gunnison. I was intrigued, my ex was repulsed. Went on line and found Lighthouse Beach on Long Island. I was hooked.
At age 22 I was part of a spiritual community near San Francisco that had a property which had a natural hot springs bathhouse. Though the community was not clothing optional, the bathhouse sort of was, at least no one seemed to mind when I and a couple of others were nude in the facility.
To be non-sexually nude in a group of people, most of whom were clothed, was like an awakening! I felt free! Not self-conscious, not sexually aroused, just free!
I only lasted three months in that community before deciding that following a guru was not for me, and I headed back to Arkansas. But, that feeling of nude freedom, and the desire for it, has never left me.
A clothing optional beach at the resort i was at in Jamaica late 90s. By myself no body on the beach and I said why not. Had to watch out for sunburn on everything been living nude since
I was 7. I grew up in a fairly routine non-nudist family in rural Ohio. I liked riding my bike to my grandfather's farm, about 5 miles outside of town. There were 50 acres of woods that I liked walking thru. One warm, sunny Sunday morning, I was in the woods, alone, and got the urge to get naked. I took off my clothes, and experienced a kind of euphoria that I had never felt before. As I walked further and further away from my clothes, the feeling got more and more intense, and I realized at that young age that being nude outside was an experience I really liked. 65 years later, I still get a euphoric feeling when naked outside. Ever since age 19, I started experiencing outdoor social nudity, and discovered the added dimension of enjoying being naked with other like-minded people.
I was about 12 or 13, used to hike to a creek near where I lived. Went hiking by myself one day, as soon as I got out of the neighborhood and into the woods, I took off my clothes and hiked to the creek nude. It felt fantastic! The creek was too shallow to swim in, so I enjoyed walking around feeling the sun and breeze on my body. Been hooked on being naked as much as possible ever since.
Interesting question, I have always been a nudist at heart....I have slept naked since a child. As a young teenanger having sleep overs in the tent outside I would convince my friends to go streaking in the neighbourhood late at night. I tried a few nudist palces but could never convince my first wife that this is a lifestyle. Now my second wife and I have been to a few nude beachs and resorts and she is OK with it and likes the enviroment that nudism brings. I decided last August 15th that I am going to be a full time at home nudist even though we have family and older kids that come by and live with us part time! Her sister has come to stay with us for an extended period and I said sure as long as she understands that I will be naked as often as is practicle! My wife said go for it and be respectfull of others and cover up when it is appropriate otherwise enjoy
I gradually learned that being naked outdoors was a possibility. Around 4th grade I was with my dad visiting the family farm (we didn't live there) which had a 2-acre flood control lake. There were a couple of high school boys swimming, but water was draining from the spillway tower. My dad asked the boys to climb up and turn the wheel to close the valve. They protested that they were naked, but my dad insisted and they did as asked. I learned you didn't have to wear clothes to swim, but it was a few years before I went skinny dipping.
Sometime in middle school I read a Robert Heinlein science fiction novel in which main characters were naked. I learned that being naked could be normal.
In high school my best friend and I would often spend Sunday afternoons hiking the hills around our small town and we'd sometimes ditch our clothes. After I got my driver's license we'd go to "the farm" and spend the day walking the hills naked (but carrying a pair of shorts in case the guy who pumped the oil wells came by). We shared outdoor naked time other places, too.
In college there was a lot of skinny dipping in a local stream and in lakes on canoe outings.
When I met my future wife, we dated in my canoe and went skinny dipping on our first date. That was one sign we'd be a good match. Turns out that over the years she really just tolerated my proclivity to be naked and wasn't so inclined herself. In contrast, my current husband celebrates and encourages my naturist leanings.
I've sought out remote hot springs, beaches, and trails where I could be naked outdoors. At home, we now live on 5 acres that's mostly private, so I'm able to spend more time skyclad than when we lived on modest in-town lot.
