News of the Nude, Mar. 2024
This month’s edition of News of the Nude was possibly our most positive edition yet, with all kinds of good stories from around the world relating to nudity in culture. Here are the top five headlines that caught our eye:
Minnesota legislator proposes making it legal for women to go topless: Highlighted by Star Tribune and further discussed by Fox News, this story revolves around Representative Samantha Sencer-Mura’s initiative to challenge and change the current standards of indecency laws in Minnesota, aiming to normalize female toplessness in public spaces.
Balls Out Bowling: the nudist event splitting opinions: Covered by BoingBoing, Daily Caller, and NPR, this article introduces a unique event by the Pittsburgh Area Naturists that mixes nudity with the leisure of bowling, igniting debates on practicality, safety, and the promotion of inclusivity and body positivity.
Three people did not enjoy John Cena’s physical perfection at Oscars: According to Rolling Stone, John Cena’s Oscar night stunt, a humorous nod to a past Oscars streaker, surprisingly upset only a handful of viewers. This could reflect a broader societal shift towards greater acceptance of nudity and humor in public discourse.
Bradley Cooper says he’s naked all the time at home: As reported by TMZ, Bradley Cooper’s openness about his comfortable relationship with nudity at home has sparked varied reactions across media platforms, opening up conversations about privacy, family dynamics, and societal norms around nudity.
Flash Art: Neo Naturist trio bare all at Tate Britain: The Art Newspaper covers the provocative performance by the Neo Naturists at Tate Britain, challenging traditional representations of women in art and celebrating their significant contributions to feminist art and activism.

Neo Naturists at Tate Britain
Continuing our observance of Women's History Month, we brought you a story about the Neo Naturists, an artist trio who recently made waves at Tate Britain. This group, comprising Jennifer Binnie, Christine Binnie, and Wilma Johnson, has been challenging artistic and societal norms for over four decades. During a recent lecture at Tate Britain, they presented themselves as living canvases, embodying iconic artworks to question the representation of women in art. Their performance was a blend of art history, activism, and critique, aimed at the very institution that hosted them. This event, part of the "Women in Revolt!" exhibition, not only highlighted the Neo Naturists' long journey from the fringes to the forefront of the art world but also underscored ongoing debates about female representation, body positivity, and the role of institutions in shaping art history.
