I wonder if there would be enough interest to start a Naked Hiking Discussion sub on Reddit? There is already a r/nudehiking sub, but it is just photos, mostly from exhibitionists. I'd like to explore topics such as how to start a naked hiking group, organizing group hikes, trail reviews, and strategies to minimize the risks of negative interactions.
“Freehiking” has another meaning, used to describe people who intentionally avoid trails and predetermined destinations. Do you think this would cause confusion?
R/Freehiking is apparently taken. A search for it always takes me to the r/nudism sub and I’m not sure why. I did find an abandoned sub, r/HikeNaked, and I applied and was allowed to take over as the sole mod. Once I figure out how to mod, I’ll let you guys know.
My experience with freehiking in other social media groups is that there isn't enough activity to keep it busy. It has to be a part of a more generalized naturist subject matter. Reddit may have enough volume to keep it active. Then you have to have moderation to keep the exhibitionists out.
I'm dipping my toe in the moderating pond. Hope it's not too much work. I'm trying to make it a discussion-only forum so it doesn't just become another sub for people to post dic-pics and semi-porn.
I understand there are active freehiker groups In the Pacific Northwest, San Diego, and maybe Vermont.
I've tried Naturist Hub and the results were underwhelming. I was in a good group on MeWe but then horny textile dudes discovered it and started griping that they didn't want to see dicks. Of course, the women there immediately ran away. Not sure how that happened because you needed a recommendation to get in. Not everyone who talks the talk, walks the walk, I guess.
I've never found any subreddit to be very satisfying, let alone nudity related subreddits. To many crazies and too many trolls.
A long long time ago there was something on Clothesfree.com and it regularly devolved into arguments over erections and genital jewelry and shaving. I abandoned it. Haven't been active there in at least a decade. May have changed.
The fundamental problem is that most nudies aren't hikers. Either they don't have any remote nature available, can't cope with ticks and mosquitoes and flies and poison ivy, or are too timid to take the risk.
I'll be happy to help if you need it. It would be refreshing to have a social media outlet specifically for legit nude hiking. The Naturist Community has a fair number of my own hikes that I wrote about.
I enjoyed a nude walk along a quiet part of the coast of the Greek island of Crete on 21 June 2023 and a stroll on Theddlethorpe beach in England in 2022.
I'm going to be a day late this year but then it will be a 5-day celebration :)
Many will be nude hiking on the 600 acres of hiking trails at the Eastern Naturist Festival this July! @everyone
