AANR launches a new video campaign to collect personal naturist stories from across the movement
The American Association for Nude Recreation (AANR) has just launched a new video campaign called #MyNudeStory, inviting people to submit short videos sharing what naturism means to them.
The idea is simple: record a 2–3 minute video, speak honestly about your naturist journey—whatever that looks like for you—and submit it through the campaign site. These videos will be lightly edited and shared across AANR’s website and social platforms over time. The goal here is to make space for real people to speak in their own voice. #MyNudeStory invites naturists and/or nudists to share what this way of life means to them—on their own terms, in their own words. Over time, these stories will form a record of who we are and why we’re here
I’ll pause here to disclose that I serve on AANR’s PR committee, and I’ve worked closely on the development of this campaign. But that’s no reason not to join in! The beauty of this project is that it doesn’t belong to any one person or committee—it belongs to the community. And it only works if people like you take part.
One inspiration behind the project was StoryCorps, the long-running NPR initiative that captures simple, unscripted conversations between everyday people. What makes StoryCorps so moving isn’t slick production or perfectly crafted language—it’s authenticity. A moment of vulnerability. A truth told plainly. The sense that we’re hearing something real. That same spirit guided us as we imagined what naturist storytelling could look like in video form. There’s no perfect answer to what naturism is. Everyone comes to it differently, for their own reasons. Maybe your story is funny. Maybe it’s quiet. Maybe it changed everything. Whatever it is, it’s yours—and that’s what matters.
And the truth is, everyone who practices naturism has a story behind it. Nobody stumbles into social nudity without crossing some kind of threshold. There’s always a reason—a moment of curiosity, rebellion, healing, joy. Those stories matter, not just because they help us feel seen, but because they remind others that they’re not alone in this. Story is the most powerful tool we have for making people feel less isolated. It’s how we connect across difference. It’s how we pass things down. And in a movement that often struggles to explain itself to the outside world, it may be one of the few things that truly cuts through.
So this is a call to participate. Whether you’re a longtime nudist or someone who just discovered this way of life last year, your voice belongs here. We’re not looking for perfection. We’re looking for presence. 🪐
What a good idea this project is! I hope it will take off (pun intended).
And you did a fine. job on your video submission.
