I believe that Planet Nude is more than the sum of its parts. Since we first launched on New Years of this year, Planet Nude has rapidly grown to become more than just a free newsletter and podcast; it has grown into a vital hub for the naturist community. That is fitting, because I and the various contributors who have helped shape the voice and value of this newsletter, do it largely as a community service.

Going paid in March of this year allowed me to monetize the newsletter through supportive subscriptions. I was as dedicated then as I am now to keeping Planet Nude free, but the paid option gave the people who see the value in our work the ability to support it with their dollars. Since then, over 100 people have signed up. This support has allowed Planet Nude to remain firm in its commitment to compensate the writers and artists who contribute so much insight and sweat equity into the research and resources we are putting out there. This financial support has been key in keeping this effort going.

All of this is why, about twice a year, I trot out the old humility hat and reach out to you, our dedicated readers, to ask directly for your support in this mission to promote naturism, to positively affect discourse around nudism, and to provide a deeper context and understanding of nudity in the world. As a longtime NPR listener and occasional supporter, I know how annoying the fundraisy stuff can be. I’ll try to keep it to the main points.

Our impact in the last 11 months

In the past year, we've dedicated ourselves to celebrating, protecting, and advancing naturism. We’re proud of a few specific achievements:

We celebrated naturism. Through thought-provoking features and essays, we illuminated the work of artists, writers, and creators. Through our affiliate podcasts—the New Nudist Podcast, Naked Age, and Planet Nude Podcast—we shared personal stories and engaged influential naturists from the US, UK, New Zealand, Canada, Mexico and more in insightful and lively discussions. We contributed to the discourse.

We broke news. We were a source for updates on multiple club and beach closures and legal threats to naturists in the United States and Canada. We were the first to report on stories from Florida, California, Wisconsin and Ontario. We diligently curated and shared global news stories related to naturism, connecting you with narratives from naturists in the UK, Germany, Australia, France, and beyond. We kept you informed.

We championed the movement. We proudly supported, through collaboration or promotion, multiple important naturist organizations, including the Naturist Action Committee, B.E.A.C.H.E.S. Foundation, American Association for Nude Recreation, the American Nudist Research Library, and the Western Nudist Research Library, hopefully contributing to their important missions.

We shed light on the real-world challenges faced by naturists in North America and beyond. We’ve developed a platform that fosters discussion and community engagement.

All of this work is driven by our passion for naturism. We are deeply grateful to our current supporters who have made it possible for Planet Nude to compensate contributing writers and artists. However, it's important to note that our platform is a full time, voluntary labor of love, and does not provide primary income for anyone involved.
