Naked Age: The Science of Growing Up Naked
Episode 12: We examine the history of studies conducted into the impact of growing up in a naturist household
An all-new episode of Naked Age is out today! We look at the history of empirical studies into the effects of growing up in a naturist environment with Mark Storey, a nudist historian and philosophy professor. Then we meet Dennis Craig Smith, the writer of Growing Up Without Shame, the 1986 book that was the result of a survey of adults who had grown up in nudist-friendly households. Join us as Smith shares his personal experiences and viewpoint from writing the book, and as we explore the underwritten history of naturism’s impact on childhood development. 🪐

Another great episode of Naked Age! Thanks Evan, that was great and also kind of sad. I wish there were more modern studies on naturism and nudism and not just on children, but for an entire context of fields like social science, environmental science, psychological, etc. I think that the more studies and broader it becomes, the more inquiries and research will look into how it affects vulnerable populations such as children. And maybe without the thesis being about children, simply included as an afterthought within the publishing, it would also help protect the author from being ostracized. Thanks again for all your hard work!
