Naked Age is back tomorrow
A new episode on making space for naturism and the people who keep it alive
An all-new episode of Naked Age finally drops tomorrow! This episode, titled “Making Space,” is about Dan Speers: a kid raised in Florida naturist clubs who grew into a key organizer behind Gunnison Beach and Tri-State Metro Naturists, and who now helps steer Sky Farm. It’s a story about how public space becomes naturist space, and what it takes to hold that space for the next generation.
Dan’s journey touches so many corners of modern naturist history. He came of age at a time when family clubs were thriving in Florida, then stepped into the free-beach movement just as Gunnison Beach was finding its footing. As a young volunteer, he helped TSMN defend and legitimize that stretch of shoreline, often face-to-face with the National Park Service. Later, he lent his voice and experience to naturism’s broader public conversation — including a memorable collaboration with photographer Spencer Tunick, helping organize dozens of beachgoers for Naked States and bringing national attention to ethical, nonsexual nudity on public land.
Dan continues to build on that foundation with several interesting creative projects with his partner Gabby. Together they co-host The Naturist Vibe podcast and co-founded the Naturist Business Network, a resource hub designed to support naturist creators, entrepreneurs, and clubs while strengthening the movement’s economic ecosystem. It’s just another example of a long career of space-making—giving naturist professionals room to grow and connect.
Naked Age: An irregular podcast
Let’s acknowledge the elephant in the room: this episode is late. I usually aim for a loose quarterly cadence with Naked Age, but these stories take time to research, write, and shape, and due to it being largely a labor of love, it necessarily has to fit around many other life obligations. Our last episode came out in February, which means this one has been a long time coming. I appreciate your patience, and I’m glad to finally share it.
We also have several new episodes in the pipeline that I’m excited about. One explores a prolific creative partnership whose work in music and theatre has threaded naturism through decades of artistic life. Another looks at an artist whose nude peace demonstration on a Florida shoreline set off a legal chain reaction that ultimately reached the U.S. Supreme Court. Those episodes (and more) are on the way… eventually.
