More shorts to put on
A new batch of reviews of online short films of the naked persuasion
I enjoy finding and watching short films, especially since they get to be quirkier or more experimental than features, so here is another batch of nudist-friendly shorts you can watch for free right now! 🚀
Nude Not (2000)
Directed by Thomas Lundy
This one feels a little like a Twilight Zone episode, and not just because it’s shot in black and white: a young woman named Jodie moves into a new place where her roommates are nude all the time. Any time she brings it up though, they act like she’s crazy. Is she being gaslighted? Is there some kind of projecting going on here? What’s the deal?
Nudist (2010)
Directed by My Sandström
This mockumentary stars Carolina Malmborg as Kerstin, a woman who has decided to stop wearing clothes after a bad breakup. She’s been fined multiple times since doing so, and has resorted to wearing an ugly, uncomfortable coat whenever she has to go out. Her loneliness is crushing, but it's the nudity that everyone around her considers the problem. An exasperated friend tries to convince her to get over her ex and start going out and meeting people. Will she meet others like herself, or continue being miserable and alone? I really wish there was more to this short, but what little there is here is still pretty good.
Romance With a Double Bass (1974)
Directed by Robert Young
Starring John Cleese and his then wife Connie Booth, Romance With a Double Bass is a romantic comedy based off of a short story by Anton Chekhov and it’s the longest film in this list. Cleese plays a musician named Smychkov, arriving to play with an orchestra at the wedding of Booth’s Princess Costanza. Smychkov is running behind and decides to stop at a nearby river for a quick bath. Through happenstance, he comes across the princess herself skinny dipping further down the river. Both of them have their clothes stolen, and the two have to make their way back to the wedding with nothing but a top hat and empty double bass case. If you ever found yourself wanting to watch John Cleese run around in nothing but a hat for a half hour or so, this one delivers, while being funny and charming throughout.
Sitting (2010)
Directed by Leighton Pierce
Sitting is a three minute experimental short focused on an art model posing for a painter, and as an artist and model running my own figure drawing group, it really resonates with me. Sitting reclined for a lengthy pose in an art class is a hazy experience. It can feel weird and a little uncomfortable at first as you figure out how to settle into the pose, but eventually you start to drift, and your surroundings seem to melt away. When a long session is finished and you come out of the pose, it can almost feel disorienting as your whole body wakes back up. On the other side of things, when you're drawing or painting a live model, the model becomes your single focus, nothing else in the room really matters and everything aside from them, your tools, and the surface you're working on also seems to melt away. It's a strangely mutual experience that this short captures beautifully.
That’s it.
So what do you think of these shorts? Which one is your favorite? 🪐
Romance with a Double Bass is not the only version there was a Russian one from 1911 and another one from another Eastern European country.

Thanks Brett. I really enjoyed the 2010 mockumentary “Nudist” and also wished it delved deeper. Stories about permanent nudity, particularly in non-naturist settings fascinate me. Perhaps I just long for a society where nudists and textiles can peacefully coexist ☺️
