Fire at Isle of Wight naturist club
No injuries reported as firefighters contain blaze at Valerian Sun Club in southern England
A fire on Saturday, November 8, destroyed a large sunroom at the Valerian Sun Club, the only naturist club on the Isle of Wight—an island off the southern coast of England. The blaze broke out around 1 p.m. local time in a wooded area near the village of Havenstreet, prompting a multi-crew response from the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service.
Firefighters worked to bring the blaze under control using hoses. As reported by Isle of Wight County Press reporter Zach Saunders, “the conservatory was completely gutted, leaving behind only a burnt-out shell.”1 The roof of the adjoining property was also damaged.
No injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire has not yet been confirmed.
Founded in 1968 and set within six acres of protected ancient woodland, Valerian Sun Club is known for its tranquil atmosphere for camping and modest amenities, including showers, kitchen/diner, and the clubhouse with the now-destroyed conservatory.2 Though the damage is significant, local reports suggest the fire was quickly contained, preventing further loss to the historic naturist site. 🪐
