Since the vandals haven't been caught, it isn't clear just who tore down parts of the barrier, but WHOEVER did that really didn’t make one with their opinion to be viewed favorably by the opposing side. If there is no compromise, guess who loses completely? Is half a beach better than none at all???
Although I don't really have a dog in this fight, I can see where the neighbors are coming from. The one time I was here and the only time I was down at Rooster Rock in Oregon I kept running into people having sex. I have never run into people having sex at Blind Creek in FL or Blacks Beach despite being to both of them more times. The one time at Collins we did not see anything inappropriate. Not that this is a statistical survey. I am just thinking that the easiest way for a clothing optional beach to lose its status is for it to be a hook up site. I don't care if it is straight or LGTBQ, and I am not sure the LGTBQ community always gets it. I was once way down on Apollo Beah in Florida on a windy marginal day naked and by myself, seawatching birds. Some creepy guy sees me, walks a mile down to me and propositions me. Then gets mad when I tell him to get lost because he had to walk all the way down to me and I should at least help him out. Like I got a tripod, big spotting scope, been watching gannets feed, what signal was I giving you? After a while the piece of driftwood near me was looking useful but eventually he got the hint. Outside of nude beaches in WA and OR, and in all my birdwatching only ever ran into people having sex twice, once two teenagers having sex in a car at the head of a trail in South Dakota, and once in a national forest in Michigan in the grass in a meadow. Pretty sure I was owl watching at a Hookup spot in Texas in a rest area, as two guys in a white pickup and me and my birding pal were playing a game of chicken into who was leaving first......they did.
