‘Emergency’ World Naked Bike Ride announced in Portland amid National Guard order
Offshoot organizers mobilize nudity in response to Trump’s federal deployment, framing nude cycling as political protest
Organizers of Portland’s World Naked Bike Ride say they are planning an “emergency” ride in response to President Donald Trump’s decision to federalize 200 Oregon National Guard troops for deployment in the city.
The plan was first announced Wednesday on Instagram: “Emergency World Naked Bike Ride coming up in response to the militarization of our city. Plans are being worked on.” The post quickly attracted local and national media reports including from OregonLive, Fox12, and Axios.
If held, the ride would be Portland’s third naked cycling event this year, following July’s Portland World Naked Bike Ride and August’s offshoot, World Naked Bike Ride Portland. Both drew significant crowds and highlighted the city’s role as a hub of nude protest culture.
Since its founding in 2004, Portland’s World Naked Bike Ride has been billed as a protest against fossil fuel dependency, while also promoting cyclist safety and body positivity. In recent years, splinter organizers have developed a second local naked bike ride, one which broadened the focus to include climate justice and other political causes. This new “emergency” ride, planned by the offshoot organizers, shifts attention to the federal deployment, which Governor Tina Kotek has criticized as costly and unnecessary, and which is facing a legal challenge in federal court.
The original Portland World Naked Bike Ride team issued a statement Thursday distancing itself from the effort, reminding riders that its next official event won’t take place until summer 2026. “We love that Portlanders use bikes (and sometimes their bodies) to stand up for justice and community,” the organizers wrote, “but to avoid confusion: this emergency ride is not organized by the original team.” They urged participants to ride safely, bring helmets and lights, and “know your rights.”
For now, the announced ride remains in planning and no date has been announced. Planet Nude will continue to follow developments and report when more details emerge. 🪐

Waving dicks in their faces is the necessary response to these fuckers. Bravo to the organizers.
