I'd assume the location was the non-AANR Pondersosa Sun Club home for the "nudes a poppin" Miss Nude whatever contest, essentially a stripper contest. it could have also been Sun Aura, another kicked out club --the old Naked City, before that Zoro and the previous home of Miss Nude Whatever. Both are dead south of Hammond and the private airport they probably flew into, within a few miles of Valpo's Lake of the Woods. That is not a Ron Jeremy kind of place. There are a bunch of older "Nudes a poppin" slides for sale on the internet and a pretty deep narrative about Naked City I read elsewhere once. I was scrolling through trying to find something else, and I swear I remember seeing Ron Jeremy's ugly mug on one. I think he was a judge, but not for sure, but I'd be willing to bet cash money the place was NOT Lake of the Woods.
My much more interesting question I had was that I think Naked City had a clothing-optional truck stop, late 70s or so....maybe it was just a strip club.....seen it referenced. Of course it still has a naked leg sundial, and an owner run out of the state of Indiana.... so I should think nothing should surprise anyone
Olaf, Dick Drost did take over a truck stop in Roselyn, Indiana and had his Naked City there with the Ms Nude America pageant, which was sore of a large striper show. I remember he had taken over Zoro for a time, but wanted to be along the interstate for more accessibility and visibility so moved to the truck stop.
I wasn't quite sure where that truck stop was, could not picture it being on the original camp property. Durst is screwy story probably left better unsaid.....I have not weighed into the life and times of Indiana nudism history much, but I did just score a really nice Alois Knapp photo.....I think it was the 1971 or 2 CSA convention had to be moved three times, due to clubs getting the boot,
I’m wondering if the club he visited was the Ponderosa Sun Club or Sun Aura, neighboring adult oriented nudist venues in the northern part of Indiana. While I think at times Ponderosa has been a more traditional family naturist club, I visited once and was told about its “nudes a poppin” event (my understanding is that’s kind of a adult pageant - they even advertise on I-80 billboards near Chicago) which seems like the type of thing that would attract the likes of Ron Jeremy. From my understanding, (I haven’t been) but Sun Aura (across the road from Ponderosa) while labeling itself a nudist venue is even more adult focused than Ponderosa. In her memoir, Jelaine Lombardi talks about visiting Ponderosa as a kid then visiting a sketchy adult themed club nearby - I’m guessing that was whatever Sun aura was at the time. Either of these places could have been the potential location for this rendezvous.
lol....the maybe mythical story about Ponderosa was they just did this a week a year to fund the place....but their website is vague, so I am not sure what one should expect, never been. .......Naked City (now Sun Aura) was really sketchy back then.....I camped last year at a fairgrounds to south in May almost buried my rig. I asked a random postal guy in the little town about the nudist places nearby, he laughed, told me that if I was a nudist to drive up to Valpo and stay there, "less apt to contract a disease." I had just picked up a load of my books from my Indiana printer....the things you chat about while chit chatting at the post office in rural America. We camped in Wabash's park in the fall, a better choice.
lol. My wife and I literally stumbled upon Ponderosa. We were driving the zig zagging country roads in that part of Indiana to get from Terre Haute back to Michigan. It was a 100 degree summer day and out of complete chance we saw the sign for Ponderosa. Not knowing anything about it we stopped in. Yes, my understanding from the member I talked to there was that the nude a popping event was a once a year fundraising event. Our experience that day was of a pretty typical family oriented club (lots of families around the pool) but hearing about nude a popping was enough for us to know we didn’t need to make a return trip. I think that will probably be the one time in my life I stumble upon a nudist resort without looking for it.
Another data point: I remember an episode of Real Sex on HBO that did a feature on the Nudes a Poppin festival at Ponderosa. Ron Jeremy was emceeing the event with Hyaparian Lee.
About a decade ago, I happened to be in the same place at the same time as John Popper and I deliberately avoided meeting him. If I had known this then, I still would have avoided meeting him. I can't freaking stand Blues Traveler.
I was at Ponderosa Sun Club on June 18, 2005 to witness the Nudes-A-Popping event. And yes, John Popper was a celebrity guest. I have a photo of Popper and Jeremy on stage and wish I could post it here.
