A new day for home nudists
August 15 celebrates the beginnings of a nudist life at home
This year, August 15 marks the first-ever Home Nudist Day, a new observance dedicated to people who practice nudism entirely within their own walls. The initiative comes from Thinking About Nudism (TAN), in collaboration with the American Association for Nude Recreation (AANR), which is helping promote and support the day as part of its broader mission to make nudism accessible to more people.
The idea emerged during a TAN meeting, in a conversation about the many themed dates on the nudist calendar—World Naked Gardening Day, International Skinny Dip Day, the World Naked Bike Ride. Someone asked: “Why isn’t there a day for home nudists?” The question struck a chord. For TAN founder Rick Dorociak, who began his own journey privately more than four decades ago, it was an overlooked part of the nudist experience worth celebrating.
Unlike public-facing events that aim to bring people together in social or activist spaces, Home Nudist Day is deliberately personal. There are no official gatherings, hashtags, or public displays required. Instead, it recognizes that for many, the path to social nudism begins in solitude—spending time without clothes in the comfort and privacy of home.
That private practice can be both practical and profound. For some, it’s a personal comfort that never needs to become public. For others, it’s a stepping stone toward visiting a nude beach, resort, or gathering. Either way, Dorociak says, “You don’t need to be seen by others to be valid. You don’t need to be in a crowd to celebrate.”
The concept is intentionally inclusive. People with physical insecurities, social anxiety, mobility challenges, or limited access to public nude spaces can still connect to the values of body freedom at home. And for many, home is where the deeper work happens—learning to accept one’s own body without comparison or performance.
In a culture that is increasingly shaped by curated images and filtered lives, Home Nudist Day offers a different invitation: step out of your clothes, if only for a few minutes, and notice how it feels. There’s no audience, no judgment, no need to post proof. Just you, your body, and the simple act of being at ease in your own skin.
Home Nudist Day takes place every August 15. Whether it’s the first time you’ve tried it or something you’ve done for years, celebrate it as a reminder that the heart of a freer way of life is in the home. 🪐
That's what I do, even in Arkansas. Thinking we should have stayed in Ohio.
Everyday is Home Nudist Day for me. I like the idea of enjoying my day, nude as usual, with other folks who enjoy body freedom.
