Nudie Shack

Nudie Shack is a cartoon series by humorist Jerry King, set in a delightfully unhinged nudist resort where the only thing looser than the dress code is the punchline. Known for his prolific work with Playboy and other major publications, King brings his decades of cartooning chops to the naturist world, populating it with oddballs, eccentrics, and sun-loving weirdos who always find new ways to bare it all—sometimes literally, sometimes emotionally, and usually for a laugh.

Nudie Shack appears on the 4th Friday of every month at Planet Nude.

I may actually need a longer break, and/or to permanently drop the frequency back down to 1 a month. I don't like the idea because it will make the storytelling pace absolutely glacial, but right now I have too much on my plate and comic work may have to take a back seat. I haven't made up my mind yet but I'm thinking about it.

Greyfriar’s Isle is a comic about an island and the people who live there. A small family runs Marsh Light, a naturist campsite connected to the beach where locals and tourists spend their vacation time. The island is historically friendly to naturism, but not universally so. Also, there are ghosts and strange, eldritch island customs.

Greyfriar’s Isle is inspired by the comics I read in my youth, by the real-world island experiences I had in my youth, my ideas about what naturism should be and the stories naturists tell each other about themselves.

It’s a perfect day to sit outside and get a tan!” Brad, carrying folded towels, adds, “Come and join us! I brought extra towels!” Arr and Arreya peek out through a window, watching them. Panel 2: Janet rubs lotion onto Brad’s back. Watching curiously, Arr asks, “What is this lotion that you are applying to his back?” Arreya stands beside him, also interested. Panel 3: Janet holds up a bottle and replies, “Sunscreen!” She continues, “It helps protect our skin from the sun while letting us get a nice shiny tan!” Then she offers, “Would you like some?” Panel 4: Sitting on towels in the sun, Arreya smiles and replies, “I don’t think we need it…” Arr adds, “Our skin is used to sun exposure!” Panel 5: Later, Brad and Janet sit indoors reading while cries of “OUCH! Arr says, “I think we may have underestimated your sun…” Janet replies, “Good job you don’t wear any clothes.”

Diary of the Astro-Nudes

Inspired by 1960s nudist camp films like “Diary of a Nudist,” and sci-fi shows such as “My Favourite Martian,” Diary of the Astro-Nudes is the story of Ar and Arreya, two inter-dimensional explorers who come from a parallel Earth where clothes don’t exist. They crash-land into an Earth very much like ours circa 1950s, and, living there with a couple named Brad and Janet while they try to fix their ship, they examine our attitudes towards nudity and the human body.

Boris Grann is a Danish cartoonist trained at the Royal Swedish Art Academy. Known for his work in Swedish underground magazines, he also creates paintings, sculptures, music, and ceramics.

Do you happen to have a Naturist Federation membership card? Dad: Sorry, no. Is it required? Panel 3. Cass shuffles papers around. Cass: Not at all, but it does give you a discount and makes registering a little easier. And without the card, I gotta give you this whole spiel… …and I've left the clubhouse in the hands of three 11-year-olds… Panel 4. Cass starts explaining things, but the dad waves her off. His demeanor is super-confident, a bit imperious. Cass: So about the campsite rules… We're not super-strict about mandating nudity especially for kids and teenagers, but we do ask that you try to- Dad: That won't be a problem! Panel 5. Dad: We've been nudist campers for years now. It makes things so much more equal for everyone! Mom: Yes, all the social distinctions just melt away, don't they! Panel 6. Cass hands over a form, while talking to the parents. Cass: Sounds like I won't need to bother with the spiel! Now please fill this in, mr and mrs., er… Mom: Van Aerdenouden tot Zuid-Aerdenouden! Dad: Allaerd, Beatrix. Son: Quint! Daughter: Anne-Sofie!

Greyfriar’s Isle is a comic about an island and the people who live there. A small family runs Marsh Light, a naturist campsite connected to the beach where locals and tourists spend their vacation time. The island is historically friendly to naturism, but not universally so. Also, there are ghosts and strange, eldritch island customs.

Greyfriar’s Isle is inspired by the comics I read in my youth, by the real-world island experiences I had in my youth, my ideas about what naturism should be and the stories naturists tell each other about themselves.

I don’t want to miss the signing!” Behind them, the green alien from space spots Asada and points, shouting, “Ah-ha! There’s the monster!” Asada calls back, “Slow down!” Panel 2: Inside the crowded convention hall, the alien pushes through a sea of attendees and costumed characters, including monsters and giant creatures. Looking around nervously, the alien says, “Oh no… I’ve lost him!” A convention-goer smiles and says, “Hey, I love your costume!” The confused alien asks, “What is a ‘costume’?” Panel 3: At a vendor table, a bearded seller offers Asada a discount while handing him a boxed collectible. The vendor says, “I can give you a cosplayer’s discount, man.” Asada replies, “But I’m not in cosplay…” Panel 4: At an artist’s table, a cartoonist who bears a strong resemblance to the comic’s real-life creator signs items while speaking with Mischa. The artist asks, “Thank you for coming out today! Are you dressed as anyone in particular?” Mischa, standing nude and holding a print, looks puzzled and replies, “Am I what?”

Brad says, “You said you needed a few things… Here’s the place to do that!” Janet excitedly adds, “The supermarket!” Panel 2: Inside the store, Arr and Arreya push a shopping cart while looking around curiously. A surprised shopper watches them. Panel 3: Arr studies a shopping list while Arreya pushes the cart. Around them are products labeled “NUDE 100% NATURAL MILK,” “NAKED” dressing, and “BARE” soup. Diary of the Astro-Nudes

Inspired by 1960s nudist camp films like “Diary of a Nudist,” and sci-fi shows such as “My Favourite Martian,” Diary of the Astro-Nudes is the story of Ar and Arreya, two inter-dimensional explorers who come from a parallel Earth where clothes don’t exist. They crash-land into an Earth very much like ours circa 1950s, and, living there with a couple named Brad and Janet while they try to fix their ship, they examine our attitudes towards nudity and the human body.
